Prince William’s selfie and high-five for rapper Tinie Tempah at the 2014 BAFTAs

One might expect the heir to the throne to maintain a certain regal poise when going about his public duties.
But once the camera light bulbs started flashing on the Bafta red carpet, it seems Prince William just couldn’t help himself.
The 31-year-old could have been mistaken for a Hollywood star last night posed for ‘selfies’ with his admiring fans and even high-fived rapper Tinie Tempah as the awards ceremony got under way.

The Duke of Cambridge, who is the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, was guest of honour at the 67th awards ceremony held at London’s Royal Opera House.
When he arrived just before the ceremony began, he was greeted by deafening screams from the assembled fans.
Not even Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie had been able to muster such an eager reception.

But rather than wilt under the pressure, Prince William embraced the limelight.
While the assembled A-list nominees waited inside, he spent ten minutes working the red carpet crowd, shaking hands like a Hollywood veteran.
He spent several minutes talking to one enthusiastic fan as his bodyguards waited patiently, and happily posed for a photo with another.

Inside, actress Uma Thurman, 43, and Leonardo DiCaprio, 39, were heard asking organisers what to do when the prince entered.
When they were told to stand, Miss Thurman exclaimed: ‘Great! So exciting to meet a prince.’
Once the televised ceremony began, Prince William was still at the centre of attention.
Instead of watching discreetly from the Royal Box as his father and grandmother usually do at such events, he sat in full view in the middle of the front row, flanked by Bafta chief executive Amanda Berry.
And to the amusement of onlookers he even high-fived the evening’s entertainer Tinie Tempah as the 25-year-old rapper walked past during his opening act.
On stage to present the Fellowship Award to Dame Helen Mirren, he also couldn't resist a joke about the star, who won a 2006 BAFTA for playing his grandmother in The Queen, saying she is 'an extremely talented British actress I should probably call Granny'.
