They may have several weeks to hone
their acceptance speeches at the Golden Globe Awards, but the stars are
already lining up to express gratitude at simply receiving a nomination.
Jennifer Lawrence,
Kerry Washington and Sandra Bullock were among the celebrity names
thanking the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for their awards nods
on Thursday.
'This is so exciting,' Lawrence said in a statement to Us Weekly about her Best Supporting Actress nomination for American Hustle. 'I'm thrilled that the film
received so many nominations and that I get to share this with the rest
of the cast.'

Kerry Washington revealed she felt
grateful for her nomination for Scandal in which she plays Washington
D.C. based 'fixer' Olivia Pope.
'It's humbling to be nominated alongside such talented and hard-working women whose work inspires me,' said the 36-year-old.
Sandra Bullock, who was nominated for Alfonso Cuaron film Gravity, paid tribute to the Mexican director after the nod, saying: 'The reason I am lucky enough to receive this wonderful nomination from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, is because Alfonso awarded me the most extraordinary experience, which was to work with him!'

Jennifer's American Hustle co-star
Amy Adams joined with Bradley Cooper in recognising the rest of the cast
for their work in the David O.Russell film.
'Huge congrats to the amazing writers,
directors, and casts of American Hustle for their nominations,' she said. 'Truly a day for gratitude.'
'I'm so happy for David O. Russell and really proud
of this film,' said Cooper. 'To work alongside Christian [Bale], Amy, Jeremy
[Renner], Jen [Lawrence] and the entire cast of this film is a real
honour.'
Kate Winslet, who has just given birth
to a baby son, seemed stunned at her Best Actress nod for Labor Day,
which is released in January.
'I'm
extremely surprised and absolutely thrilled to be included this year!!
Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,' she said.
All star cast: Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence all received nominations for American Hustle
Nominated: Kate Winslet, pictured in October
before giving birth to a baby son, said she was 'extremely surprised' to
be nominated
Star turn: Kate was surprised that her performance in Labor Day has garnered her a nomination
The nominations were read out by Zoe Saldana, Aziz Ansari and Olivia Wilde at The Beverly Hilton Hotel where the awards will take place on January 12.
British actress Judi Dench paid tribute to the character she plays in the film Philomena for which she received a Best Actress nod.
'What great news!' she said. 'I'm delighted, and
hugely honoured to be in such magnificent company. And without the
inspiration of Philomena herself I wouldn't of course be receiving this
recognition.'
Fellow British actress Emma Thompson
is up against Dench and Winslet in the Best Actress category for her
take on cantankerous Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers in Saving Mr
Banks.
'Making this film
was the most
satisfying and thrilling job I've had in years,' she said. 'It was a
privilege to
work with a team of people who couldn't have been bettered. We're having
a celebratory cup of coffee because we know how to live!'
In the race: Judi Dench and Emma Thompson are up against each other in the Best Actress category
Paying tribute: Judi Dench, who was nominated for Philomena thanked the real life lady the film was based upon
Meanwhile, Matthew McConaughey
paid tribute to Ron Woodruff, the unlikely AIDS campaigner who he plays
in Dallas Buyers Club. The star has scored his first Golden Globe
nomination for the role.
'Ron
Woodruff was an incredible revolutionary, for HIV and the human spirit,
and I was honoured to tell his story,' said Matthew. 'Looking forward
to spending the evening with the HFPA on January 12th.'
His
Dallas Buyers Club co-star Jared Leto, who is currently on tour with
his band 30 Seconds From Mars, was equally thrilled at his nod.
Double trouble: Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey both received nominations for Dallas Buyers Club
'This is absolutely
incredible,' he said. 'I want to thank the members of the Hollywood
Foreign Press Association for shining a light on Dallas Buyers Club and
for celebrating independent cinema.
'I'm
blown away by this Golden Globe Award nomination and so thankful to the
incredible filmmakers for inviting me to help bring a fascinating story
to the screen. This has been an unforgettable experience and I'm so
very grateful to you all.'
Leto
is up against Michael Fassbender in the Best Supporting Actor category.
The Irish actor plays sadistic slavemaster Edwin Epps in 12 Years a
Slave.
The film tells the story of free man Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who is kidnapped and sold into slavery.
'I'm thrilled for my friends Steve [McQueen], Chiwetel [Ejiofor] and Lupita [Nyong'o],'
said Fassbender, referring to his co-stars who also received
nominations. 'I feel this is such an important film so thank you to the
HFPA for all their support championing Solomon Northup's story.'
Overwhelmed: Lupita Nyong'o and Chiwetel Ejiofor both received nominations for 12 Years A Slave
The road to Oscar glory: The success of Steve McQueen's (left) 12 Years A
Slave in the awards nominations make it odds on to do well in the
Oscars, with Lupita and Chiwetel
Pleased: Michael Fassbender said he was also thrilled for his cast-mates and director Steve McQueen
Kenyan actress Lupita was 'overwhelmed' with her nomination.
'I can't express the excitement I felt
hearing my name called while listening to the nominations from Paris
this afternoon,' she said. 'I screamed and the tears started immediately; I was so
overwhelmed!
'I am so happy for Chiwetel, Michael, Steve, John, and Hans.
12 Years a Slave means so much to me and having the Hollywood Foreign
Press recognise it as it did, is just beyond words.'
Director McQueen added: 'I am delighted for
my cast and crew who worked so hard on this film to shine a light on a
forgotten American hero, Solomon Northup.'
Hoping for victory: Leonardo DiCaprio have both been nominated for yet another Golden Globe
Pride: Leonardo said The Wolf Of Wall Street was one of the highlights of his career
As a producer for The Wolf Of Wall
Street as well as its star, Leonardo DiCaprio seemed more pleased with
the film being recognised than for his acting nod.
'Getting this movie financed and off the ground
was a dream of mine for over six years, and is a testament to the true
collaboration between Red Granite, Sikelia, Appian Way and Paramount,' said the star.
'This film would not have been possible without the genius of Martin
Scorsese, and this incredibly talented cast and crew. Making Wolf of
Wall Street was one of the highlights of my career. Thank you again to
the HFPA for their support.'
Long Walk To Freedom: Idris Elba paid tribute to Nelson Mandela who he plays in the biopic
A very different part: Idris has also been nominated for his role as London detective Luther in the BBC series
Meanwhile, Idris Elba used his
nomination to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela who he plays in Long Walk To
Freedom. The former South African President passed away last week.
'I
would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Mandela, who will be
forever missed,' said the British star, who has also been nominated in
the television category for his work on detective drama Luther.
'I'm truly humbled
and honoured to be acknowledged for two projects that, though very
different from one another, are both extremely personal and special to
me,' he said, revealing that he would be celebrating with a 'piece of chocolate cake with his daughter.
'She's
just five-year- old and came home the other day talking about Nelson
Mandela. She just learned about him, so I'm really proud to go and
celebrate with her on this day.'
First time nominee: Oscar Isaac was being
interviewed on The Today Show when he learned he had been nominated for
his role as a failing folk singer in Inside Llewyn Davis
Long journey: Julie Delpy who stars with Ethan Hawke in Before Midnight was also nominated
Taylor Schilling of Netflix original series Orange Is The New Black
said her Best Actress nomination was 'surreal' while Julia
Louis-Dreyfus was already thinking about her wardobe for the big night
after receiving two nods - for Veep and Enough Said.
'I'm thrilled and so grateful to the Hollywood Foreign Press. One question: does this mean I need two dresses?' she laughed.
Julie
Delpy said she was 'delighted, happy and thrilled' to be nominated for
Before Midnight. 'It's been an amazing journey which I've shared over 20
years with [director] Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke, to whom I owe
so much,' she said.
Newcomer Oscar Isaac who plays the lead role in Inside Llewyn Davis was on The Today Show when the nominations were announced.
'It
was a bit of a gamble,' he said. 'It was the kind
of thing where I'm on, and they keep me around. If I get nominated, I
come back out, but if I didn't get nominated, I'd slink away,' he
admitted. 'The huge reactions in L.A. and New York, and now this, all
of it is surprising.
What a rush: German actor Daniel Bruhl scored a
nod while Taylor Schilling was named in the Best Actress category for
Orange Is The New Black
Driving to the podium: Bruhl stars as Formula One driver Nicky Lauda in Ron Howard's film Rush
He added: 'Joel and Ethan (Coen) have completely
changed my life,''There's a reason why (this) happens to so many actors
who are involved in their movies because they create a stage for people
to do their absolute best work. Not only the actors themselves, but
everyone involved.'
And Rush star Daniel Bruhl was busy filming Face Of An Angel in Sienna, Italy when he heard the news.
'I don't
really know what time it is,' he confessed to The Hollywood Reporter. 'I lost my voice yesterday when the SAG
Award nominations were announced and it's sure to get worse today.
'I can't wait to fly to Barcelona to see my
mum for Christmas and to sit there with her, my girlfriend and my
family under the Christmas tree, and analyse this year that's been a
roller coaster for me,' he added.
