Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's oldest
child Maddox looked all grown up as he joined his parents on the red
carpet at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science's Governors
Awards on Saturday night.
The 12-year-old sported a tuxedo and bow tie like his dad, with his hair smartly combed to the side.
It's a new look for the lad, who is more frequently seen in jeans and T-shirts as you would expect from a boy of his age.
That's our boy: Proud parents Angelina Jolie,
Brad Pitt and their son Maddox at the Governors Awards, presented by the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood on Saturday
He smiled shyly for photographers in
front of proud Angelina, 38, and Brad, 49, before going into the Grand
Ballroom at the Hollywood and Highland Center to see his mum
receive the
prestigious Jean Hersholt Award for humanitarian work and an Oscar
statuette.
His hunky dad put a protective hand on his shoulder as he guided him into the venue.
It's been a big year for Maddox, who also made his acting debut playing an uncredited bit role as a zombie in Brad's blockbuster
World War Z, which opened in June.
And it's a far cry from what his life would have been as an unwanted baby in Cambodia.
Chip off the old block: Not only is the 12-year-old dressed like his dad, he's got the same haircut
New life: Angelina started the process for
adopting her first son from Cambodia when he was just seven months old
but it was two years before she was able to bring him to the US in 2003
Out for a ride: Single mom Angelina took her
precious tot for a trip in a horse-drawn carriage in New York in 2005,
where she was busy promoting Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Angelina adopted her first son in 2002 when he was just seven months old from an orphanage in Battambang.
The actress applied for adoption after visiting Cambodia while
filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 and, later, on a field mission for the United Nations' High Commission for Refugees.
But
Angelina, who was then married to Billy Bob Thornton, wasn't able to
bring the child back to the US until 2003 due to legal issues.
He wears it well: Even as an eight-year-old
Maddox had his own sense of style, pictured here at Narita International
airport in Japan with his mum, baby sister Vivienne and little Shiloh
in 2009
Clan gathering: Brad and Angelina with Zahara,
Knox, Maddox, Shiloh, Pax and Vivienne at Haneda International Airport
in Japan in 2011, where Brad promoted his film, Money Ball
The beautiful brunette finally
took custody of Maddox in Namibia, where she was filming Beyond Borders.
By then she had split with Billy Bob and raised him as a single mother.
All that changed in 2005 when the actress and Brad fell in love on the
set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the celebrity couple began to grow their
family.
Now Maddox has five siblings, Pax, nine; Zahara, eight; Shiloh, seven; and five-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
Flights of fashion: Maddox was frequently at Los
Angeles International airport this summer, where he showed off his
growing sense of style
The children travel with their mum and
dad to various filming locations as much as possible and are frequently
seen flying into and out of airports around the world, which enables
fans to see how the brood is growing up.
Angelina
has been in Australia directing her second feature film, an adaptation
of Laura Hillenbrand's WWII book Unbroken with a script by the Coen
Brothers. While Brad has been in England shooting the WWII film Fury
with Shia LaBeouf and Scott Eastwood.
But he reportedly flew to Sydney earlier this month to spend time with his family.
Meanwhile, Angelina's next role is Disney's Maleficent - due out May 30 - with Juno Temple, Elle Fanning and Miranda Richardson.
Getting in on the family business: In 2011
Maddox visited Brad on the set of World War Z and snagged an uncredited
role as a zombie
