This Wednesday was no exception as the star and her 17-month-old adopted son stopped off at a Coffee Bean in West Hollywood.
The
Prometheus actress went for an off-duty casual look on the outing,
wearing black and white printed trousers and a plain black vest.
Just the two of us: Charlize Theron and her son Jackson head out for coffee in West Hollywood on Wednesday
(Movie) stars and stripes: Charlize looked
effortlessly chic in a black top and patterned trousers, while her son
wore a striped T-shirt
With
an active toddler to keep an eye on, the mother-of-one sensibly opted
for practical but on-trend slipper-style flats for the coffee run.
She rocked her pixie-style crop with a relaxed, side-swept fringe and black sunglasses.
Little Jackson looked cool in a red and white striped T-shirt, khaki shorts and cute trainers.
Phone home: Charlize makes a phone call as she heads back to the car
The 38-year-old adopted Jackson as a single mother last March and is rarely seen without him by her side when she’s not filming.
Their
latest outing was likely a bit of light relief for Charlize. She has
been working on Dark Places, a hard-hitting film based on the book by
Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.
It
tells the story of a girl who witnesses the murder of some of her
family members. The thriller is also co-produced by the Oscar-winner,
who takes on the lead role of Libby Day, whose story has some chilling
similarities with the actresses own upbringing.
Cool kid: The 17-month-old boy wore a red striped T-shirt and khaki shorts with a pair of Converse trainers
After you: Charlize keeps a close eye on her son as she leaves the Coffee Bean with a frappe
Like her character in the book, Charlize also witnessed the violent death of a family member when she was very young - making it a personal project for the star.
At just 15-years of age, the actress watched the killing of her alcoholic father, by her own mother in an act of self-defence.
In
2009 she spoke about the incident, saying: 'Everything changed for me
that day my father died. Years ago I used to cover it all up and say he
died in a car accident.
'I
have now come to terms with it and have been able to move on. This was
so long ago in my life and my life, my emotions and the pain are not
stuck in this one event,' she added.
Elfin: The 38-year-old star kept her eyes shaded from the sun in a pair of black glasses
Night owl: Charlize stayed in the same ensemble for dinner at Dominick's in West Hollywood on Wednesday night
