It was due to be a lavish affair at Jerusalem's Western Wall.
But Paula Abdul allegedly chose to scale back her belated Bar Mitzvah ceremony over the weekend.
Israel's
Tourism Ministry said Tuesday that the 51-year-old made last-minute
changes to her packed itinerary because she was jet-lagged.
Toned down: Paula Abdul scaled back her belated
Bar Mitzvah during her first visit to Israel, the country's Tourism
Ministry said Tuesday, Abdul pictured at the Israel Museum last week
The normally tireless
TV personality came to Israel to connect to her Jewish roots and for a
Bat Mitzvah, the coming-of-age ceremony girls typically have at age 12
or 13.
The
ministry, which is hosting Abdul, says she was planning to hold a
high-profile ceremony at the Wall, the holiest place where Jews can
pray, but instead had a private weekend affair in the northern town of
Safed.
Officiating
Rabbi Eyal Riess of the Tzfat Kabbalah Center said Abdul wanted to
escape the media circus for a more intimate ceremony.
Abdul was not immediately available for comment.
Friends in high place: Abdul was seen posing with President Shimon Peres during a Q&A in Jerusalem

has three)
The former American Idol judge also had the opportunity to sit down with Israel's president Shimon Perez.
The pair warmly clasped hands as they posed for pictures, before sitting down together for a Q & A.
Abdul was then seen visiting the historic Machane Yehuda Market, where she posed with platters of candy.
