Through the looking glass: Inside Kristen Stewart's Alice In Wonderland themed childhood home... as it's placed on the market at $1,750,000

She’s admitted to having a sheltered upbringing – but when that shelter happens to be an Alice In Wonderland themed home in the Hollywood Hills, one could be forgiven for not getting out much.
Indeed, the Twilight star enjoyed a comfortable upbringing with her two brothers in a secluded Southern California property that has just been listed at a healthy $1,750,000 – and with good reason.
Set back from a long driveway, the house looks modest enough when compared to the extravagance of neighboring Beverly Hills, but a series of photos reveal one or two additional flourishes to the accoutrements one would expect from such a home

Out back the glimmering pool is present and correct, along with a handful of sun loungers strategically spaced along one side.

But also present is a large chessboard that appears to be built into the neatly manicured lawn;.
Lined with bricks, it comes with oversize pieces, conjuring images of the game Alice plays in Through The Looking Glass.
That theme appears to continue with the property’s façade, upon which The White Rabbit – one of the key characters from Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel, Alice In Wonderland – has been carefully sculpted.

A side wall depicts another scene from Carroll’s classic tale, the famous trial during which the Queen of Hearts barks: ‘No, no! Sentence first – verdict afterwards.’
That line, along with a rendering of the Queen and one of her knaves, provides a distinctive embellishment, while the diamond shaped designs on the facing lawn offer additional detail.
Inside the home is predictably spacious, with varnished wooden floorboards running throughout a large, state-of-the-art kitchen.
Far from humble, the house was owned by Kristen’s parents, John and Jules-Mann Stewart, with earnings made from their successful Hollywood careers.

John is a respected stage manager and TV producer whose previous employers include US television network Fox, while Jules – originally from Queensland, Australia – is a script supervisor.
Jules also wrote and directed her first film, K-11, an independent feature focusing on race and gender identity in Los Angeles Men Central Jail - but unlike the bulk of her daughter’s work, it fared badly upon its release in 2012.
Speaking to the June issue of Elle, Kristen admitted to regretting her cossetted upbringing – because it was ‘too easy.’
‘You can learn so much from bad things,’ she said. ‘I feel boring. I feel like, Why is everything so easy for me? I can’t wait for something crazy to f***ing happen to me.

‘I want someone to F*** me over. Do you know what I mean?’
The actress will be back on the big screen in 2014 with Guantanamo Bay drama Camp X-Ray.
