But there is one woman who doesn't appreciate Eva Mendes' skinny figure - her mother.
'I'll do anything for a role,' the actress tells the October issue of Lucky magazine. 'For The Place Beyond The Pines, I exercised a lot. I wanted my character to feel really depleted.
'My mom didn't understand why I would want to look that way. She's constantly telling me I'm too skinny!'
Lucky lady: Eva Mendes reveals her secrets for staying super sexy and slim in the October 2013 issue of Lucky magazine
The sultry 39-year-old graces the style and fashion magazine's October 2013 cover.
Eva sticks to a healthy diet that forbids any red meat or chicken, although she concedes a weakness for cake such as the meringue cake from Porto's, a Cuban bakery near her Los Angeles home.
'I'll do anything for a role': The sultry
30-year-old will step up the workouts to lose weight for a role, which
doesn't exactly please her mom who thinks she's 'too skinny'
The results definitely show in the
magazine's inside page where the trendsetter displays her curvy figure
in a clingy black A-line number with furry shoulder details and
low-heeled slip-on black shoes.Looking fashionable is something that Eva always seems to get right and it helps that she's a designer with New York & Company.
'I never thought I would be a designer, if that's what I am,' Eva tells Lucky. 'And at first, I wasn't sure I could do it.'
Depleted: Eva admits she exercised like crazy to
give her character, Romina, in The Place Beyond The Pines opposite
real-life love Ryan Gosling a more 'depleted' look
Eva's mom, also named Eva, and other female members of her family convinced her she could do it.
'They were like, "Evie, you have to do this!"' says Eva, who adds that her first two seasons were inspired by them.
Eva's designs are intended to reach women of all shapes.
'My customer is not a fan of the way tabloids cover celebrity style: "Who wore it best." It's disastrous for women's self-esteem. With fashion, there is no right or wrong.'

Trendsetter: Eva the fashion designer says there
is 'no right or wrong' when it comes to style and she never misses a
beat when it comes to her outfits like these she wore in July while out
in New York City
Personally speaking, Eva's fashion taste doesn't always come with a high-priced label.'I love a bargain,' she says.
'And there are days when I don't feel great, but I put on my favorite dress and throw a scarf in my hair, and it makes all the difference.
'Hopefully my line can do that for women. Even if you're not feeling your best, let's admit it, the right outfit – it helps.'
Off limits: One subject Eva won't discuss is her
relationship with Ryan Gosling, pictured with her in May of last year;
she prefers to keep her private life strictly private
Eva's relationship with 32-year-old actor Ryan Gosling is one subject that she remains unwilling to discuss.
The pair have been a hot item since falling in love on the set of last year's riveting crime drama The Place Beyond The Pines.
'You can ask about my boyfriend. I just won't answer,' Eva says good-naturedly.
'The way my mother keeps track of me is looking me up,' she adds. 'I say, "Please, Mother, don't Google me!"'
