Have you ever known a closer pair? Katie Holmes slips into charcoal cardigan to match daughter Suri's pretty school dress

Katie Holmes looked ultra chic a few days ago at a New York Fashion Week event, but was back to basics on Thursday as she picked up daughter Suri Cruise from school.

The 34-year-old actress stood behind her seven-year-old daughter as they mingled with friends on bikes.

Katie was back to her regular gear of faded blue jeans and a white T-shirt after getting all dolled up earlier this week for New York Fashion Week.

The actress and fashion designer also wore a loose grey sweater and had her hair

loosely pulled back.

She finished off her look with a pair of brown sunglasses and open-toed black sandals.

Suri was sporting a pink cast that covered her right wrist and elbow after breaking her arm in late August in an undisclosed accident.

The dark-haired cutie wore a little grey, short-sleeved dress with a black band across her waist.

She accessorised with a pink bow in her hair that matched her cast and also wore a pair of orange trainers.

The Dawson's Creek star clutched a cold drink in one hand, while Suri held onto her other as they talked with friends.

Katie also co-designs her own label Holmes & Yang along with he stylist Jeanne Yang.

The duo offered 14 spring/summer 2014 outfits during a New York Fashion Week presentation at a gallery in Chelsea.

Katie on Wednesday ditched her typically casual wear and went for a softer look at the Michael Kors show in a mid-calf floral skirt with a lime green blouse.

Katie has primary custody of Suri following her 2012 divorce from actor Tom Cruise.
