Paul, 40, star of the Fast And Furious franchise, tragically died in a fiery crash in November when the Porsche he was travelling in lost control in Santa Clarita, California while Philip, 46, passed away following an overdose of drugs including cocaine and heroin just last month.
And they were two of the actors who the Academy paid tribute to in the sombre In Memoriam section of the otherwise lighthearted ceremony at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.
Fondly remembered: Paul Walker, who tragically
died in a car crash in November, was remembered by his peers at the
Academy Awards on Sunday
Still raw: Philip Seymour Hoffman died from an overdose just last month, shocking the industry
Philip was the final actor mentioned in the segment which was followed by a stunning performance from Bette Midler. The 68-year-old songstress sang Wind Beneath My Wings for an emotional finale..
Corey Monteith, who appeared as Finn Hudson in Glee, shocked fans of the musical series when he died at a Vancouver hotel following a drug and alcohol overdose in July.
Spy novellist, Tom Clancy, passed away aged 66 in a Baltimore hospital near his Maryland home in October.

Actor Dennis Farina, director Alan Renais, screenwriter Syd Field and comedic actor, Jonathan Winters, were also omitted from the list.
Of course there were other huge losses suffered by Hollywood over the past year and they each received a mention at the prestigious event.
Remembered: James Gandolfini was one of the many stars who lost their lives in the past year
James Gandolfini, 51, died of a heart attack while in Italy with his teenage son in June.
The Sopranos actor is best known for his role as Tony Soprano in HBO's The Sopranos.
He had many close friends in the industry including Brad Pitt and George Clooney and his funeral was attended by many Hollywood devastated pals.
Former hellraiser: Galway actor Peter O'Toole was included in the sad tribute which aired on the ABC telecast of the Oscars
Legendary Galway actor Peter O'Toole, star of Lawrence of Arabia, was among those included.

Child star: Shirley Temple, probably the most famous child star of all time, was remembered fondly by her peers
Child star Shirley Temple, who died at the age of 81 last month, was honoured as was Harry Potter actor Richard Griffiths, 65.
And there was a special tribute to Roger Ebert, the 70-year-old film critic, who died after a long battle with cancer, last year.
Uncle Vernon: Harry Potter star Richard Griffiths passed away last year
Nice touch: The Academy showed how much critic Roger Ebert meant to the industry by including him in the tribute
While there was no picture shown of Sarah Jones, the Midnight Ride camera operator who died last month, despite a campaign to have her included, she was briefly mentioned at the end.
A note explained that she was part of the extended In Memoriam section on the Oscars.com website.
Wind beneath my wings: After Hoffman's face flashed up on the screen, Bette Midler sang Wind Beneath My Wings
