Oscars golden girl Lupita Nyong'o was
looking a little worse for wear as she arrived back at Hollywood's
Dolby Theatre the morning after her historic win.
The
Best Supporting Actress winner admitted she hadn't yet had a chance to
sleep as she joined Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan onstage to relive her
career-changing moment as Live With Kelly
& Michael filmed from the West Coast as part of their annual post-Oscars wrap.
She
may have looked exhausted as she arrived for the interview clad in
jeans, canvas boat shoes and a navy blue jacket with a male friend, who
held on tight to her gold statue, but by the time she was broadcast live
across the country, Lupita was looking nothing less than the superstar
she is.
'I haven't even slept!' Golden girl Lupita
Nyong'o looked thoroughly exhausted as she arrived back at Hollywood's
Dolby Theatre the morning after her big Oscars win for an interview with
Live With Kelly & Michael
Back
to her best: Just a short time later, she was looking a million dollars
as she took to the stage to talk about her career-defining moment as
she proudly clutched her gold statue
The 31-year-old looked fresh as a daisy as she sat down with her gong, her amazing mood reflected in her neon yellow outfit.
The 12 Years A Slave star showed off her enviable figure in the three-piece ensemble, featuring
a mini-skirt, top with white silk neck detail and three-quarter sleeve blazer, teamed with gunmetal stilettos.
Her
make-up was beautifully applied and natural, with a deep rusty red on
her lips, her cropped mane worn in a simple coiffed style.
'[The
win] hasn't set in. I haven't even slept!' she excitedly told the
audience. 'It is overwhelming, but at the same time, this is the thing I
dreamed for, it's the thing that I availed myself for. I'm just trying
to allow myself to absorb it all.'
'This is the thing I dreamed for': The star
impressed co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan with her poise and
elegance despite having not sleep since her win, while she matched her
neon yellow three-piece outfit to her decidedly cheery mood
Taking
it all in: The 31-year-old was all smiles and enjoyed a giggle as
praise was heaped on her by her adoring public - something she'll have
to get used to now that she's a household name
The down-to-earth Kenyan beauty
admitted that she was still in shock that her award 'did not disappear'
at midnight - believing that it was still somehow all a wonderful dream.
While
Lupita did let Michael hold her pride and joy briefly - 'For three
seconds!' - she revealed that she was very protective over the new
little man in her life, who joins a number of new additions to her
mantlepiece of late, of which she laughed, 'I really have to get a
two-bedroom apartment' to house them all.
'For
the first half of the night, I was very selfish - I wouldn't even let
people take a picture of it,' she laughed. 'But then I lightened up.'
The
grounded star went on to give a belated shoutout to her management
team, whom she forgot to thank during the overwhelming haze of her
acceptance speech.
'For
the first half of the night, I was very selfish - I wouldn't even let
people take a picture of it': Lupita let Michael get his paws on the
statue - 'For three seconds!' - as she revealed she had 'lightened up' in the hours since being
presented with the gold gong
'It hasn't set it': The 12 Years A Slave star
admitted she was still on cloud nine following the prestigious win,
unable to fully comprehend what had happened, while she laughed that she
was shocked when the award 'did not disappear' come midnight
'I forgot to thank my manager. They
got me this in the very first place. My agent at Innovative [Artists],
thank u so, so much. My publicist, Fox Searchlight, New Regency, Plan
B.'
Interestingly,
while the star has gushed over director Steve McQueen and was quick to
thank him onstage, she failed to specifically thank Brad Pitt, whose
production company Plan B Entertainment backed the project and without
whom it may never have been made.
Speaking
of her acceptance speech, which was delivered with the utmost poise and
eloquence the actress has come to be synonymous with, she said she
didn't 'want to spend too much time' monopolising the stage.
'Everything
I wrote was from my heart,' she said of the message that included the
sentiment: 'When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and
every little child that no matter where you’re from your dreams are
valid.'
No rest for the wicked! The actress appeared to
enjoy a brief moment of shuteye - or perhaps a moment of quiet
reflection - as she snuggled up to her pal, clad in jeans, boat shoes,
neon top and navy blue jacket, before making her way into the theatre
Golden girl: Lupita glowed as she appeared on Ellen later that morning
Unbelievable: Lupita said she was still in shock over her win as she glowed happiness and joy
