And now Kim Kardashian's long cherished dream has finally come true.
Kim appears on the cover of the April edition of the fashion bible alongside Kanye.
Cover stars: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have
finally made the front cover of U.S. Vogue, appearing on the front of
the April edition
her waist.
Thrilled Kim tweeted that her appearance was a 'dream come true' on Friday when the cover was released on the magazine's website.
'This is such a dream come true!!! Thank you @VogueMagazine for this cover! O M GGGGGG!!! I can't even breath!' (sic) she tweeted.
Adorable: An accompanying video on the website shows Kim, Kanye and baby North
Daddy's girl: Kanye plants a kiss on his bouncing baby's head while sitting on a plane in the video
Outdoor shoot: The video went behind the scenes of the prestigious photo session
Kanye simply added on his Twitter page: 'Thank you' with a link to the cover on the Vogue website.
For the cover shot, Kim's hair is pulled into a chic chignon teamed with smoky eye make-up and nude lipstick.
Her Lorraine Schwartz designed 15-carat diamond engagement ring is her only piece of jewellery.
The photographs were taken by famed
celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, who has captured everybody from
Queen Elizabeth II to John Lennon, Barack Obama and Lady Gaga.
In her editor's letter, Anna Wintour explains the thinking behind her decision to so prominently feature a reality star who found first found fame through a sex tape.
'Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it,' she writes.
'I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)'
And Wintour denied reports she had been put under pressure by Kanye to put his fiancée on the front of the legendary magazine.
She adds: 'As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort.
'The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.'
Wintour's decision to give the couple her stamp of approval will be seen by many die-hard fashionistas as controversial. But the British-born editor cited the couple's fame, talent and influence as reason enough to feature them in her pages.

In love: The video is set to Kanye's controversial video Bound 2 in which Kim appears in the video
The cover line introduces the piece as:
'Kim & Kanye Their fashionable life and surreal times. #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple.'
It is apparently the first time a hashtag has been used on the Vogue cover and refers to Kim's huge social media presence - she has more than 20 million Twitter followers.

An accompanying video on Vogue's
website shows Kim cradling the couple's eight month old baby daughter
North as Kanye looks on adoringly.
Dramatic scenes: In one snapshot, Kim sports a
ruffled white dress, laying back against a car, while Kanye stands in
front of her
Behind the scenes: The famous twosome looked happy and relaxed for their big shoot
Swan like: Kim's Vogue wardrobe was mainly in white, with one particularly feathered dress with cinched in waist
Another section of footage features Kanye planting a kiss on the baby's
head while sitting in a private jet.
Kim sticks to a white wardrobe for the video and she is seen looking particularly striking while walking hand in hand with Kanye in a white feathered Alexander McQueen gown.
The dramatic dress gets another appearance when Kim lies down with her back on a car with Kanye leaning in for an embrace.
Other snippets include her kissing baby North and the couple posing on a private jet to the strains of Kanye's song Bound 2 - the same track features Kim in the music video.

Flower power: Kim and Kanye ensured they schmoozed Vogue Editor Wintour at last year's Met Ball in New York City
Where's Kim? Kardashian was unceremoniously
cropped out of the picture in a style section on Vogue's website
following the Met Ball

media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for
good reason,' she wrote. 'Kanye
is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through
her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare
of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.'
Despite Wintour's comments, Kanye has often spoken out publicly in favour of Kim being a Vogue cover girl. Indeed, he told Ryan Seacrest last year: 'There's no way Kim Kardashian shouldn't be on the cover of Vogue. She's like the most intriguing woman right now. She's got Barbara Walters calling her like every day.'
However,
many thought a Vogue cover was highly unlikely, especially after Kim,
and her rather fussy Givenchy gown, was unceremoniously cropped out of a
'style section' on the Vogue website following the Met Ball.
The snub was seen as a way for the magazine to distance itself from Kim.
Meanwhile, Khloe Kardashian tweeted an Instagram of the cover along with the message: 'Vogue #KiKi #Yeezy #Love.' Kendall Jenner added: 'soooo major sister! this is gorgeous!!! @KimKardashian @kanyewest' on her Twitter.
Kim's mother Kris Jenner was equally effusive, posting a tweet which read: 'Gorgeous!!!! @voguemagazine @KimKardashian @kanyewest #amazing #stunning #soproudofyoutwo #AnnieLeibowitz.'
Kim's friend Brittny Gastineau wrote 'They got the cover!!!! Congrats @kimkardashian and#Kanyewest so Happy for you guys!!!! #next level #VOGUE #APRIL' and best pal Jonathan Cheeban added: 'Congrats Kim and Kanye on your gorgeous Vogue cover!!'
But many fashion fans were predictably upset at Kim's appearance, despite Wintour regularly featuring celebrities on her cover.
'KIM KARDASHIAN and VOGUE shouldn't be put in the same sentence. End of,' tweeted LiamCalderone while Matt Bellassai wrote on the social network: 'I'm gonna buy the Kanye and Kim Vogue issue just so I can burn it.'
Chris Liu tweeted: 'I feel betrayed by Anna Wintour and Vogue,' Monica de Castro added: 'Did I just see THAT cover of Vogue? I quit fashion,' while @rozfashionista tweeted 'I just cancelled my Vogue subscription after eight years.'
