The beautiful 49-year-old Gravity star was attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival this weekend when she confided to People that - out of curiosity - she recently typed her name into the search engine.
The Academy Award winner was instantly shocked by the insensitive comments she saw and said:
'No human being should ever read the comments sections or ever Google one's self at any time!'
Shocked by callous comments: Actress Sandra
Bullock said she plugged her name into Google and was surprised at the
mean-spirited comments. The Gravity star won an award Saturday at the
Palm Springs International Film Awards
She explained she was 'very well aware' that there would be some biting articles and comments, but was surprised by the extent of them.
'"Sandra Bullock is over 40" came up a lot,' said the mother-of-one. 'And "there's absolutely nothing special about her acting."'
Bullock also said she found other comments like: 'She's not particularly attractive.' And, 'I can't stand her.' She also saw comments that 'she's mediocre (and) she's over 40.'
Good sport: Bullock laughed about the nasty remarks she read about herself in the comment sections in online articles
At the festival with fellow actors and pals George Clooney - with whom she starred in Gravity - and Julia Roberts, she joked about some online gossip she found.
'Apparently Julia ... You and I are in a dispute over George Clooney. We talked about this, right? It's shared custody and we're both fine with it.'
The Blind Side star - who suffered a humiliating split from cheating motorcycle customiser husband Jesse James in 2010 - also couldn't help reading rumours about who she is dating.
Fan favourite: Despite negative online comments, Bullock continues to be a box office smash hit
Joked the star: '[There were] lots and lots of comments about who I've dated. Some are true and some I'll never admit to. I was reminded I made out with Meryl Streep. Off-screen, not necessarily her choice. I kind of took her by surprise.'
But not all comments, thankfully, were hurtful about America's Sweetheart.
'Some commenters thought I had good hair and good teeth. And I made some young girls and some over 40 girls laugh with some chick flicks. I've had a pretty good life and a pretty good career.'
What can you do? Bullock cautions everyone from Googling their own name
