He's heading towards another awards season with yet more hit movie missiles in his pocket.
But
movie honcho Harvey Weinstein was shocked to be the one picking up the
gong - as he was the unexpected honoree at the Capri-Hollywood Film
Festival on Monday.
The
film impresario - dubbed 'Mr Oscar' - famously won an Academy Award for
producing Shakespeare in Love in 1998 - and festival founder Pascal Vicedomini said it was time he received another award.
Honoured: Harvey Weinstein - seen with Idris
Elba at Royal Film Performance of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom - in
London last month, was an unexpected honoree at the Capri-Hollywood film
festival
Best of friends: On Monday night, Naomie and her
Mandela co-star Idris Elba were seen together at the Villa Verde
restaurant in Capri
So good to see you: The pair greeted each other with a hug inside the eatery
The Weinstein
Company's movie August Osage County won four awards, including Best
Film of the Year at the film festival, while Meryl Streep won best
actress and the cast was honoured with the 2013 best acting ensemble of
the year award. Chris Cooper also received the festival's Lifetime
Achievement Award.
In addition to this, the company's other film, Mandela: Long
Walk To Freedom walked
away with three awards as Brit Idris Elba was named Best Actor for his
role as the late South African President Nelson Mandela, Naomie Harris
was named Best Supporting Actress for her performance as his wife Winnie
Mandela - and U2’s “Ordinary Love” was named
Best Song.
Mr Weinstein, 61, joked: 'What Pascal doesn't realize is that I'm
not actually Jewish, I'm Sicilian.
'And I have some
friends who are going to visit him in the middle of the night to repay
him for calling me up on stage tonight.'
The awards come as Hollywood prepares to head into awards season - with the Golden Globes on January 12.
Mandela
stars Idris and Naomie were on hand to pick their gongs following a
standing-room only premiere of their film at the Italian festival - and
Luther star Idris, 41, joked: 'I come to Capri bringing two things: a great film and the rain.'
Cuddling up: Naomie, who has always been
fiercely private about her personal life, was more than happy to kiss
and cuddle her boyfriend Peter Legler during their lunch on the Amalfi
Coast on Monday
PDA: Peter appeared equally enamoured with his girlfriend as he lavished her with attention
Meanwhile,
his stunning co-star Naomie, 37, who is normally extremely private -
appeared in public for the first time with her boyfriend Peter Legler as
they enjoyed a trip along the Amalfi Coast.
Naomie is famously
fiercely private it when it comes to her personal life, so the
photographs of her enjoying such a public embrace with her man are
likely to come as a surprise to her fans.
But
perhaps her relationship with Peter could be credited for what appears
to have been a change in her outlook over the past year.
In
an interview with the Evening Standard earlier this month, Naomie
admitted that her stance on having children has changed - especially
because she believes becoming a mother could also improve her acting
ability.
She said: 'Babies suck energy and time, and you’ve
got to be ready to give all of that up. I wasn’t back then. I definitely
feel ready now.'
Rferring to her friend Thandie Newton, Naomie added: 'She’s pregnant with her third child now
and she’s really successful. From talking to people, having a baby
actually makes you a better actor. Because it’s all about life
experience.
'You can only bring what you’ve experienced on to the screen.
And this other huge life-changing event, it just makes you more whole,
and more able to emote and give more.'
