She's portraying one of the most nasty characters in musical theatre history.
And
whilst
the stunning Cameron Diaz was far from haggard in her portrayal
of Miss Hannigan in the Annie remake, she certainly appears to have
already got into character as the eccentric orphanage owner, as she
pulled a series of funny faces through a taxi window on Wednesday.
The
41-year-old actress was on the New York City set as she glared through
the window, shouting, pouting, snarling and even posing like bunny - a
set of faces which were guaranteed to scare
any orphan in sight.
Having a laugh: In fact she could not stop giggling at how ridiculous the whole situation was
Squirt off! Even being squirted with Windex was not enough to put off Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan
Friendly disagreement? She seemed to be swapping some words with her co-star Jamie Foxx
The series of comical faces looked to be directed towards Hollywood
actor, Jamie Fox, who is playing the adaptation's equivalent to the
loveable Daddy Warbucks, who takes Annie away from the orphanage.
However
none of her eye-popping, grinning, posy pouting or sheer anger did
anything to deter Jamie's steely exterior as the taxi drove away.
On
Cameron's Twitter page, which she only set up last week, on November 8,
waisted no time in posting a photo herself as the brutally mean Miss
Hanningan.
Beside a photo of herself posing as the character, she wrote: 'I want you to meet someone.
Her name is Ms.Hannigan. She ain't nice and she ain't pretty.'
Maybe not: But he was soon scared out of his skin after she unleashed a furious verbal volley
Glammed up: Cameron Diaz appeared as a very glamourous Miss Hannigan on Annie set
On-screen chemistry: Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx look to have a lot of chemistry on the set of the new film
Take that you! Cameron Diaz hurled a pink item off a balcony as she shot scenes for Annie on the New York City set in Wednesday
Cameron's was earlier seen hurling a pink blanket from a balcony from a fire escape staircase as the cameras rolled.
And her version of the bitter old
orphanage owner was far sexier than Carol Burnett's, and deliberately so
by the looks of things.
She
wore ripped dark green skinny jeans that boasted more holes than actual
fabric, which were tucked into the top of vicious looking black ankle
boots covered with sharp silver studs.
A
white fishnet shirt was topped with another very hole-happy grey
sweatshirt, which was in turn topped with a black and white bat-wing
style cardigan.
Yikes! The 41-year-old actress was scary as Miss Hannigan, the operator of the orphanage
Not so nice: Cameron is portraying the nasty woman once played by Carol Burnett in the 1982 movie
Chunky jewellery decorated the Bad Teacher star's neck and enormous hoop earrings cemented her outdated urban-chic look.
Black
nail polish added a little scary factor to the grungy ensemble, but
the scariest thing of all was no doubt her expert angry face.
Cameron
scowled as she hurled the pink piece of fabric
with all her might off the edge of the balcony on the side of typical
New York-style external fire escape.
Urban: The actress was dressed in ripped skinny
jeans, black studded boots and sported a messy 'do for her role as the
nasty orphanage owner
An angry monster is precisely
what she was attempting to portray, with her character Miss Hannigan
being the very thing that makes little Annie's life hell.
The
remake, produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith, stars Quvenzhané Wallis in
the title role, with the ten-year-old youngster having been filming for
several weeks now.
Jamie Foxx plays millionaire Benjamin Stacks - the movie's equivalent to 'Daddy' Warbucks with Rose Byrne as his assistant.
Catch! The star had the item thrown back up to her so she could shoot the scene again
Angry face: You wouldn't mess with Cameron in this state
An all-star cast: Cameron stars alongside
Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale in the
remake produced by Will Smith
Chilly conditions: Earlier in the day, Cameron Diaz was spotted wearing a fuzzy feather boa
Directed by Will Gluck and based on a
screenplay by Emma Thompson, the film was originally set to star Willow
Smith as the famous orphan.
It is thought that Jay-Z - a long time fan of the 1982 musical - will be providing some original music for the film.
'When
the TV version [of Annie] came on, I was drawn to it,' he once
revealed. 'It was the struggle of this poor kid in this environment and
how her life changed... It immediately resonated.'
Busy day: She never had time to stop as they continued to shoot scenes throughout the morning and afternoon
Taking no prisoners: Her character seems to be more than a little volatile going by her antics
Rearly impressive: Fit Cameron is still in great shape considering she is now 41-years-old
Jay-Z famously sampled the song Hard
Knock Life in his 1998 hit Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem) after hearing
a DJ play an instrumental version of it.
'It
immediately brought me back to my childhood and that feeling," he said.
'I knew right then and there that I had to make that record, and people
would relate to the struggle and the aspiration in it as well.
The
original musical is based on the Harold Gray comic strip, Little Orphan
Annie, which made its debut in 1924. The Broadway musical opened in
1977 and won seven Tonys.
The
feature film based on the musical opened in theatres in 1982 and
starred Aileen Quinn as Annie, Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks and also
featured Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters.
Getting scruffy: The actress portrays a mean lady who is insistent upon wearing hoop earrings
What a line-up: Jamie Foxx plays Benjamin Stacks who is an updated version of the character Daddy Warbucks from the earlier film
Mighty fine: The actor strut about set looking dashing in a suit and a suave trench to keep warm
