Their love of fashion has never been
in doubt - and throughout the years, Victoria and David Beckham have
managed to outdo themselves in the sartorial stakes.
And
now, determined to raise funds for the survivors of the devastating
Typhoon Haiyan, the Beckhams have raided their closets to donate some of
their best-known designer outfits to support the British Red Cross Shop
Drop for the Philippines.
From
the couple's infamous matching Dickensian outfits worn at the Venice
Film Festival in 2006 - to David's baseball caps and 100 pairs of
Victoria's heels, boxes of the Beckham's belongings are being donated.
Also up for sale are suits designed by the Beckhams' close friends, Dolce and Gabbana.
Everything must go: David and Victoria have
donated boxes of designer clothing to the Red Cross - including
Victoria's dress worn during their visit to the Venice Film Festival in
September 2006
Up for grabs: The Beckhams used to be well known
for their love of matching outfits. David Beckham admitted last year:
'I look back on some stuff and think I can't believe I actually wore
that'
Victoria, who now runs a successful fashion line of her own, spent the weekend sifting through clothing and said: 'Typhoon Haiyan has devastated the
Philippines, killing thousands and leaving hundreds of thousands
homeless.
'The British Red Cross is now carrying out an enormous
humanitarian relief project to help all those people in desperate need.
'David and I are supporting the Red Cross Shop Drop for the Philippines
campaign and we urge everyone in Britain to do the same. Everyone has
something in their closet they were holding onto, a dress, suit, or pair
of shoes they thought they might wear again, dig them out, bag them up,
drop them off and give someone else the chance to buy them, raising
much needed funds for the Red Cross aid effort. Thank you.'
Dozens of pieces from the couple’s
wardrobe will go on sale on Friday at the British Red
Cross shop in Kensington and Chelsea in London, which specialises in designer
clothing, with the money raised going to help those affected by the
typhoon in the Philippines.
The
collection includes the dress Victoria, 39, wore when she arrived at
the Venice Film Festival in September 2006 with David to publicise their
fragrance, alongside
dresses, tops, suits and shoes from labels including Dolce &
Gabbana, Jimmy Choo, and Roberto Cavalli.

Now: David and Victoria Beckham now prefer a
rather more sleek look when they make public appearances. The couple are
seen together in London in September
She's in fashion: Victoria Beckham looks stylish
at the Global Gift Gala in London on Tuesday night - and poses with
Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld in Berlin last week after receiving her
Bambi award
Although both Beckhams now
prefer a rather more sleek look, David, 38, last year stood by their
fashion choices - despite admitting that sometimes he looked back at
pictures and thought: 'What were we thinking?'
Once
proudly showing off a matching biker-inspired look in Versace leather,
Becks said they joked about the red carpet faux-pas, telling H&M
magazine: 'Me and Victoria wore matching black leather outfits once.
'They were Versace. But that's one when I look back and am like 'What were we thinking?' 'We laugh about that one. I remember that it's really good until you do it as a couple.'
David,
who has been linked with a knighthood in the Queen's New Year's Honours
list, also admits previous outfits he and his wife have showcased over
the years were over-the-top - but very much of the time.
He said: ' I look back on some stuff and think I can't believe I actually wore that.
'I have no regrets, though - I knew at the time it was good.'
Fashionable: Stefano Gabbana, Victoria Beckham
and Domenico Dolce together in Milan in December 2008. Many of the
Beckhams D&G items are going up for sale for the Red Cross
Thanks: The Beckhams' penned note after donating their wardrobe to charity

brother leather trench coat - similar to the one worn above by Victoria
Beckham in October 2006 - is being sold off, alongside many of David
Beckham's favourite baseball caps
British Red Cross
Director of Fundraising, Mark Astarita, said: 'We are delighted to have
Victoria and David’s support for the British Red Cross ‘Shop Drop for
Philippines’.
'Their generous donation will enable us to raise
significant funds towards the enormous humanitarian operation currently
underway: providing survivors of Typhoon Haiyan with urgent shelter,
medical equipment, food and clean water.
'We know people desperately want
to help, but many just don’t have the money to give. ‘Shop Drop for the
Philippines’ offers everyone an opportunity to make a difference,
either by donating items or by shopping in one of our 330 shops across
the UK.'
Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on Friday
November 8. More than 13 million people have been affected and more
than four million people have been displaced with many living in evacuation
centres or makeshift shelters.
Anyone who wants to help can drop off
their goods at their nearest Red Cross shop. Their donations will then be
specially labelled for shoppers to buy in store to help raise vital
funds for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
Victoria and David Beckham’s
donations will go on sale at the Kensington & Chelsea Red Cross
shop, 69-71 Old Church St, London SW3 5BS on Friday with
extended opening hours from 11am to 8pm.
