Still recovering from the injury he received while on the set of Nightcrawler, the 32-year-old actor was spotted strolling the rainy sidewalks of the Tribeca area of New York.
The Brokeback Mountain star protected his cast from the elements by draping a leather and lamb's wool coat over his arm.

In his other hand, Gyllenhaal carried a small coffee while balancing the brown tweed blazer on a coat hanger.
Despite the flesh-coloured cast and emaciated new look, the actor looked dapper, as he wore his longer-than-usual hair slicked back and new-growth stubble on his chin.
In addition to his two coats, Gyllenhaal wore a light blue dress shirt with brown tweed trousers and brown dress shoes.

As he walked in the rain, the Donnie Darko actor was protected by the elements by his assistant, who held an umbrella for the actor.
Gyllenhaal recently went through a metamorphsis in order to star in the thriller Nightcrawler. In the film, he plays Lou, a man who discovers the seedy world of freelance crime journalism.
For the part of the crime journalist, the Zodiac star lost 20 pounds, which altered his usual phsyically fit appearance, thinning out his face and body.

On Nov. 14, while filming an intense scene in which his character punches a mirror, the glass shattered in an unexpected way, wounding the Oscar-nominated actor.
Gyllenhaal was rushed to the emergency room of a local Los Angeles hospital, where he recieved numerous stitches. Always the professional, the actor returned to the set the next day to complete the scene.
Nightcrawler co-stars Bill Paxton and Rene Russo, wife of the film’s director Dan Gilroy. It is set for theaters in 2014.
