Smaller than his usual ride! Simon Cowell ditches his huge Bentley to take brand new lightweight kit car for a spin

He is usually seen cruising around Beverly Hills in his huge, luxurious Bentley Azure convertible.

But Simon Cowell appears to have discovered that good things can come in small packages as he treated himself to a new addition to his car collection - a Caterham Seven sports car.

And wasting no time in trying it out for size the 53-year-old was seen taking his new toy for a spin on Tuesday not long after it was delivered.

Simon was eager to get behind the wheel of the super-lightweight vehicle which accelerates from zero to 60mph in 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph.

He was ready to ride in a pair of faded blue jeans, a tight white T-shirt and sunglasses.

Simon quickly climbed into the light grey vehicle and merged into traffic.

The sporty Caterham Seven CSR costs about £35,000.

The X Factor supremo hasn't hesitated to open his wallet in the past to expand his fleet of luxury vehicles.

He splashed down a million dollars in 2008 on a Bugatti Veyron that has a top speed of 253.81mph.

The American Idol star also has owned a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a Bentley Azure convertible, an Aston Martin and a Ferrari.

Simon was spotted out on Monday night with pregnant girlfriend Lauren Silverman, 36, at a restaurant in West Hollywood, California.

The couple were joined by flamboyant Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli and Lauren's gal pal American designer Rachel Roy.

Simon currently is on the judging panel of the US version of The X Factor with fellow judges Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio and Demi Lovato.
