It's the picture fans have been waiting two months to see — and Kanye West has finally revealed the first photo of his baby daughter with Kim Kardashian.
The rapper proudly showed off his tiny firstborn North West during an appearance on Kris Jenner's talk show on Friday.
The picture, which was flashed up on a giant screen, shows the adorable
little girl looking at the
camera with almond-shaped eyes like her
famous mother. "I thought it would be cool on her grandmother's season finale to bring a picture," said Kanye.
It drew gasps and excited shrieks from delighted audience members who clapped and cheered.
In the interview, Kanye also revealed how much he loved family
life, saying that he has had to adjust from his bachelor ways. "I
wasn't used to it, and now when I'm out I try to get home early," he
told Kris. Kris also admitted that she had grown used to Kanye living at
her home with Kim and their baby. "When you go on trips, I miss you,"
she said.
Kanye's decision to release a picture of his little girl, who was
nicknamed Nori, in such a public manner came as a surprise to many.
Before she made her early arrival on 15 June, he spoke at length about
how he wouldn't let his daughter grow up in the spotlight.
"This is my baby. This isn't America's baby," he told the New York Times in the week before North's premature birth.
But, no doubt aware of the intense public interest in his child, particularly given reality star Kim's open relationship with the media, the very private musician let his guard down.
His decision is also a testament to how eager he is to support his
girlfriend's family. The promise of seeing Kim and Kanye's baby for the
first time drew in huge viewers to Kris' show — the final episode in her
trial summer run.
Certainly Kanye seemed very much at ease as he sat down with his
girlfriend's mother. The 36-year-old, who has had a turbulent
relationship with the press, spoke candidly about his relationship with
Kim, 32.
"I could have people saying, you know, this is going to damage your
credibility as an artist or as a designer, and I say, you know, 'I don't
care, I love this woman'," he said.
The first-time father went on to explain the doubts people may have
about their relationship: "Everyone knows you don't like paparazzi, why
would you be with this person?"
He answered the question himself: "I'm being with this person because I love this person and she's worth it to me."
Kanye also addressed the recent death of his grandfather, Portwood
Williams Sr., who died earlier this month at the age of 98. On Saturday,
he attended the funeral in Oklahoma with his girlfriend Kim and little
Nori.
"You know my grandfather just past and (for him) it was never about
money, it was never about popularity, his whole thing was joy, just joy,
having joy in his life," said the star, to a huge round of applause from the audience.
She's my joy," he added, referring to Kim, "and she brought my new joy
into the world and there's no paparazzi and there's no blog comment
that's gonna take that joy from me."
