The 69-year-old actor and his 44-year-old wife have been spotted together for the first time since their split was revealed and both were wearing their wedding rings.
The couple spent the day together in New York last Sunday with their children Dylan, 13 and Carys, 10, and looked as if they had never been apart.
Back together? Michael Douglas and Catherine
Zeta-Jones wore their wedding rings as they enjoyed a day out together
in New York on December 22 , the first time they have been spotted
together since their separation
A good sign: Michael and Catherine both wore
their wedding bands during their family day in New York last Sunday
after Douglas recently revealed he was hopeful a reconciliation was on
the cards
And this was no quick get-together for the sake of the children, Michael and Catherine were together all day, starting at Orso restaurant for lunch before taking in Motown, the Broadway musical, and finishing with a trip to the cinema to see The Hobbit.
Douglas has been hinting in recent interviews that the couple have reconciled.
The Wall Street star told GQ Magazine last month that he has high hopes for the future of his marriage with the Welsh beauty.
Quality time: This was no quick get-together for
the sake of the children, Michael and Catherine were together all day
on Sunday 22 December
Hectic day: The family started their day at Orso
restaurant for lunch before taking in Motown, the Broadway musical, and
finishing with a trip to the cinema to see The Hobbit
'I hope to resolve my marriage in a positive fashion,' he said.
During an appearance on The Jay Leno show, the Romancing The Stone star added that talks between himself and Catherine have been going well.
When asked how things are between them, he answered: 'Good I hope. I've been away for a while but everything should hopefully be on the up and up,' he said.
Together again: Catherine and Michael have had
their ups and downs in the past few years with her bi-polar and his
cancer diagnosis but they appear to have weathered the storm
Looking better than ever: Both Michael and
Catherine looked better than they have in a long time, showing that a
reconciliation suits them
And onlookers who saw the duo at lunch with their children at Orso told the Daily Mail that they were 'laughing and enjoying each other's company'.
Clearly a reconciliation suits the couple, who both looked better than they have in months on their family outing.
Michael, who famously suffered hid his tongue cancer diagnosis in 2010 and claimed it was throat cancer, appeared fit and healthy as he herded his clan around the city.
Dressed in a leather jacket, dark shirt and trousers and alternating between sunglasses and a baseball cap, he also sported a goatee, which made him look years younger.
Leading the way: Michael led his family as they strolled in New York during their fun-filled day out
Never apart: The couple spent the day together in New York last Sunday
with their children Dylan, 13 and Carys, 10, and looked as if they had
never been apart
Fans will be delighted to see him looking so well, especially as the two-time Oscar-winner admitted three years after the fact that he was actually diagnosed with tongue cancer, not throat cancer as initially reported.
Speaking on TV show This Morning, he previously explained: 'This was right before I had to go on a big tour for Wall Street, so we kind of said there's no way we can cancel the tour and say we don't feel well.
'I said, "You've just got to come out and just tell them I've got cancer and that's that."'
Moving on: While Michael's and Catherine's illnesses caused them strife, the couple appear to be making a fresh start
But Douglas' doctor urged him to bend the truth as the worse-case treatment required for tongue cancer would be far more invasive and subsequently damaging to his career.
'The surgeon said, "Let's just say it's throat cancer." I said, "OK, you don't want to say it's tongue cancer?" I said, "Why's that?" and he said, "Well, if you really want to know why, if we do have to have surgery, it's not going to be pretty.
'You'll lose part of you jaw and your tongue and all of that stuff." So I said, "OK sure."'
The actor didn't mislead fans about the progression of the cancer, with the star confirming it was still stage-four, which is the most advanced.
It's a Christmas miracle: No doubt Cerys and
Dylan will be thrilled that their mother and father appear to be working
things out
Hopeful: The Wall Street star told GQ Magazine
last month that he has high hopes for the future of his marriage with
the Welsh beauty
Meanwhile, Catherine, who has also had her own health troubles, looked spectacular.
The brunette beauty showed off her slender figure in black legging and a black top and added ankle boots, sunglasses and a small bag.
As the evening got colder, she changed from her lighter black coat into a fur jacket and ditched her sunglasses.
Back on? Although Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones announced
their separation in August, they enjoyed a family day with their
children in New York last week
The actress bravely went public about her bi-polar condition in 2011 and said she hopes she can help remove the stigma from the mental condition.
Catherine was treated in a psychiatric hospital for manic and spoke to InStyle US last year about how she was coping.
'It's been an intense time, in good ways and bad,' Catherine said.
Youthful: Michael, 69, looked better than ever as he and his family embraced the festive spirit
Ending the year on a high: Despite a tough year, it appears as if the couple have managed to find their way back to each other
'You find out who you really are and who you are married to. You find things inside yourself you never imagined were there.'
'I've gained an appreciation for little things, like tea outside on a terrace and a beautiful afternoon like this.'
She also told the magazine that she hopes she can help others suffering with the condition.
'I'm not the kind of person who likes to shout out my personal issues from the rooftops but with my bipolar becoming public, I hope fellow sufferers will know it is completely controllable.'
'I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who don't have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it.'
Meanwhile Cerys and Dylan looked thrilled to have their family back together again.
Concerned mother: Catherine made sure to keep an eye on their children
as the family made their way down the street together in New York
Back together? Michael has recently hinted that the couple were
reconciling but this is the first time he and Catherine have been
spotted together since the split
