'A lot of people think you're a jerk', says Jimmy Kimmel after grovelling apology to 'genius' Kanye West in gushing interview

Audiences were expecting fireworks when Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel finally came face-to-face following their Twitter feud... but sadly, they were disappointed.

The host kicked off the alleged confrontation on his talkshow, Jimmy Kimmel Live, by introducing the star with the joke that the 21-time Grammy Award-winner last month 'threatened his own existence' when he embarked on a twitter rant with him.

But it was clearly all bravado, as the 45-year-old launched into a gruelling apology once the Heartless singer took his seat on stage.
'I really felt bad about this whole thing,' Kimmel began his long-winded, gushing spiel.

He briefly tried to deflect the awkwardness as Kanye sat there stone-faced, nodding occasionally by asking the rapper who he was wearing, to which he coldly replied, 'Ralph,' meaning Ralph Lauren.

A similarly terse response was all that was given when Kimmel questioned the grill he was wearing on his lower teeth.

'It's been in my mouth for three years,' the new father deadpanned.

As his apology continued, the host attempted to coax his guest into talking as he asked, 'I do think somewhere in you, you want people to understand where you're coming from, correct?'

Again, he got a one-word answer for the star, 'Yeah.'

'In fairness, there was context to it, and we took it out of context,' Jimmy continued, referencing the skit he did with a precocious child playing Kanye that started the whole feud in the first place.
Making him sweat: Despite the warm welcome, the 36-year-old sat stone-faced not saying a word for the longest time as the talkshow host embarked on his long and gushing spiel

'The main reason we did it is I like to watch little kids curse,' he feebly tried to explain, before stating once again that the pair's argument was real and not simply fabricated for publicity.

'Everyone out there in TV world, real world... needs to know I've never done a publicity stunt in my life,' Kanye finally broke his silence. 'I don't follow rules of, like, normal celebrity. I don't do publicity stunts period.

'We kinda just took it back to high school for a moment,' he added.

'And I got beat up a lot in high school, so I didn't want to go back there!' the comedian laughed.

While Kimmel mostly kept it sickeningly sweet as he sucked up to his guest, he did have some honest words for the star - telling him he feels that he brings a lot of his bad publicity on himself.

'A lot of people think you're a jerk,' he said, before making sure to ensure the rapper knew he wasn't one of them as he stated that he regularly defends him to other people.

While Kanye didn't get the opportunity to speak much during the interview, when he did, he went on some of the longest monologues known to man.

'I'm not running for office, I'm just here to make good music. For me, I'm a creative genius and there's no other way to word it. I know you're not supposed to say that about yourself, but my intention's always positive. It's bigger than who I am in my presence, living...' he stated.

'I wouldn't even say I'm a rapper; I would say that I'm a messenger. In all honesty, all I care about is my family, protecting my girl, protecting my dreams.'

Kimmel bravely dared question the star's penchant for referring to himself as a 'genius', saying that he felt that the statement 'upsets people'.

'I'm weird and I'm inappropriate sometimes, but if I didn't say it I would be lying to myself,' Yeezy simply responded.

While the hitmaker has previously gushed about first-time parenthood with daughter North and love of his life Kim Kardashian, the star was reserved and didn't give anything away, despite his ladies being at the studio during the interview.

He did, however, slam the Hollywood Walk Of Fame committee for their refusal to recognise his baby mama with her own star because she's a reality TV personality.
Jimmy attempted to wrap up the show with a gift for baby North - a pair of black leather jogging pants, which only succeeded in setting the singer off on a long spiel about the fashion industry.

'That doesn't sound practical; it sounds sweaty,' Jimmy laughed of the leather pants.

'Fashion isn't always practical. It's more about emotion, it's more about swag,' Kanye began as he recalled the story of how he first pitched the idea to Fendi when he was an intern there years earlier.

'Currently in fashion, there's no black guy at the end of the runway in all honesty. Who do you know who's more known for clothes than me? It's like, how can you get a shot. No real designers will work with a rapper.

'It's not about racism anymore, it's classism. Classism is what they try to do when they say, "You're a rapper, your girl's a reality star..." It's snobbery and I'm not into snobbery. All we want to do is make awesome stuff.

'A lot of people say, "You have to do music." I'm gonna keep doing music... I'm only 36 years old, I have other dreams,' he continued.

'My mother made me believe in myself. I refuse to follow those rules that society set up. It's about truth, it's about information, it's about awesomeness. The only luxury is time.

The superstar went on to explain his comments where he compares himself to Jesus and Steve Jobs among others, saying, 'These are my idols. This is the kind of impact I want to make on this earth.

He also made sure to address his love-hate relationship with the paparazzi.

'The way the paparazzi talk to me and my family is disrespectful. Don't try to antagonise me - it's not safe for you in the zoo. Don't think I'm not from Chicago for one second!' he warned.

'I understand you gotta get your money, but let's have respect for each other. It's a lack of decency.'

As Kimmel predicted at the beginning of the show, the episode ran overtime, leading the remaining scheduled guests to be rescheduled.

Earlier in the day, the new father certainly looked like he was ready for a fight as he arrived at the ABC studio in his sleek black Lamborghini before making his way inside on foot.

Louis Vuitton carryall in hand, the Heartless singer wore his best poker face as he was escorted into the building by half a dozen burly security guards.

The 36-year-old was dressed casually in ripped jeans, brown sneakers and a plain white T-shirt, only swapping his tee for a baby blue Ralph Lauren long-sleeved top for his onscreen appearance.

Baby mama Kim Kardashian also arrived to lend her support with daughter North.

The 32-year-old looked lovely with her new blonde locks styled in a sleek, straight 'do, while she kept her make-up on the lighter side, with plenty of contouring bronzer.
The first-time mom already appears to have squeezed back into her skinny jeans, which she wore with a matching navy blue top and an ankle-length black coat on the decidedly chilly day.

Showstopping tan thigh-high leather boots added plenty of style and a much-needed pop of colour to the otherwise muted ensemble.

Kim made sure four-month-old North was concealed as always beneath a warm grey blanket as she wheeled her into the studio in an Orbit Baby stroller.

Kanye's guest appearance on the show was confirmed on Tuesday, when Jimmy tweeted, 'Tomorrow night my guest will be @kanyewest (for real, yes and was it all a setup, no).'
