Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident say Dr. King’s siblings and grandchildren were on a charter bus returning from a rally at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, when a van ran a red light and forced the bus driver to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting the vehicle, according to TMZ.
Dr. King’s sister, Christine King Farris, 85, was on the bus at the time of the crash. Earlier that same day, Christine placed a commemorative wreath on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
Television personality Omarosa Manigault, who is a friend of the King family, was also on the bus. Omarosa reportedly hit her head on the seat in front of her, but she is okay.
“Yikes just got banged up a lil bit on bus- I am ok! #HitMyHead ouch,” Omarosa tweeted after the crash.
The bus driver was taken to a nearby hospital.
How awful! We hope no one was seriously injured.

Martin Luther King’s ‘Dream’ Speech 50 Years Later

On Aug. 28, 1963, Dr. King gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech during the March on Washington. He delivered the famous address calling for an end to racism in America from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to more than 250,000 civil rights supporters, and his rousing words are still an inspiration to countless people all over the world.
On Aug. 28, 2013, exactly 50 years later, tens of thousands of people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall to commemorate the anniversary of the “I Have a Dream Speech.”
It is so sad that such a special day was marred by this unfortunate accident! We hope everyone involved is okay.
